Approximately 300 youth each year transition from either juvenile correctional facilities or age out of foster care within the Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD). In 2007, CYFD developed the Transition Services program to provide services to juvenile justice involved youth and their families during the commitment period and through parole and transition into the community. In September 2008, CYFD merged the Protective Services Independent Living Program serving youth aging out of foster care with the Transition Services program. The new program provides intensive care coordination and support to CYFD-involved transitioning youth. Program for youths ages 18 to 21.
The Transitions Housing Program is funded through the State of New Mexico’s Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD). In FY13, the program received $167,000 from CYFD. For FY16, the program's budget allocation is $147,000.
