Rental Housing for Elderly Persons Program
How Can You Help?
The National Low Income Housing Coalition is providing this data as a public service. NLIHC will continue to update the database. The accuracy of the data is based on information provided by the programs' administrators and user submissions.
The Housing for Elderly Persons program provides assistance to non-profit housing developers and public housing authorities to develop housing for elderly persons. The Department of Housing (DOH) issues grants and loans to develop such housing. Residents pay the greater of a base rent, which is the minimum rent each community can charge residents and still meet operating expenses, or a percentage of their adjusted gross income, minus a utility allowance. Ten percent of the units in these communities must be accessible to persons with physical disabilities.
The program is not directly funded at this time, but can be funded using the Flexible Housing Fund or the Housing Repayment and Revolving Loan Fund.
