The Primero Loan Program is a low cost loan program dedicated to affordable rental or special needs facilities considered higher risk by traditional lenders. By leveraging other public and private funds, the Primero Loan Program finances construction, conversion, acquisition, and rehabilitation projects. Priority initiatives in place aim to increase affordable housing development in underserved markets including tribal housing, Colonias housing, and the rehabilitation of manufactured housing. Loans terms are up to five years, at a maximum of $1 million.
This program receives funding through the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority. As of November 2013, $4.5 million in funding was made available.
