The City of Las Vegas uses a competitive process to allocate funds available through the Las Vegas 18% Set Aside Program. Funds can be used for both rental and homeownership projects and loan subsidies for buyers of homes. In FY12-13, funding contributed to the development of 110 units of housing.
The Nevada State Legislature requires large cities in Nevada to set aside a percentage of tax revenue to preserve or increase affordable housing and educational facilities. Of revenue raised, up to 50% may go towards affordable housing initiatives. In FY12-13, $1.17 million was allocated through this program.
