The Housing Security Guarantee Program (HSGP) provides funds to a network of nonprofit community agencies that serve low income families. It was started in 1994 and is administered by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Homeless and Housing Services. Persons seeking a security deposit guarantee apply through one of the seven agencies, which work with private landlords, public housing agencies, transitional housing programs, outreach workers, and others to ensure program availability to the entire state. The HSGP issued 597 security loan certificates in FY12. The program has assisted 11,258 households since inception in 1994.
HGSP is a revolving loan fund. The agency has $100,000 budgeted for this program for FY12 in case a tenant defaults.
